Afghan Beljik Rugs are a new quality that is being produce in small quantities in Afghanistan.
This type of handmade Afghan Rug is made with importe wool, the early/first examples were probably mades with wool from Belgium – hence the name Beljik, and its derivatives Belgique.
The wool pile of these Afghan Beljik Rugs is an outstanding quality: opulent in the way it feels – the pile is ultra lustrous.
Afghan Beljik Rugs are hand-knotted rugs of superlative quality, the microscopic knotting is two-three times finer than Afghan Khan Mohamadi Rugs. The warp threads used can be either wool or cotton.
The designs favoured are renditions of Afghan Khan Mohamadi patterns, medallion style, and traditional Afghan designs.
